The first of six bogie horse box vans was placed into service in 1889. The van code was FF. The other vans entered service between 1891 and 1892. The numbers were 1 - 6.
In 1894 a new four wheel van ( _F__ 52 ), entered service with a greater capacity than other vehicles in the class. This van was subsequently recoded to FF between 1894 and 1897.
At the same time the bogie vans were recoded to FFF. In the 1910 recoding the bogie van code letters were altered to FF.
Ten more bogie vans were built between 1928/1929, numbers 7 - 16.
FF 1, 8 were scrapped in 1954. FF 2 - 6 were modified for overhead construction on the Warragul line and became _OH_ 1 - 5.
Vans 7, 10, 12, 13 were recoded to _FP_ in 1956.
The underframes of 9 and 11 became _Q__ 130, 131 respecively, in 1953. Q131 was a crane jib support for Crane 45.
Vans 14, 15 and 16 were recoded to _FH_ in 1961 when the letter 'F' became a speed and bogie exchange type indicator.
