The BMF vans were recoded from _BP_ when the _ZF_ / ZJF_ conversions to ZLP_ / ZJP_ were underway.
Bogies between the two classes were swapped upgrading the guards vans to 70mph (115km/hr) passenger speed and downgrading the BP class to standard freight speeds of 60mph.
The BMF class was recoded gradually from 1963 to BMX_.
