For the start of through running freight trains between Victoria and South Australia, seven Joint Stock brakevans were built in 1962.
They were the same design as _ZF_ vans. The class allocated was ZJF and the van numbers were 1 to 7.
In 1963/1964 the vans were fitted with BX bogies and relettered to ZJP.
In 1965, the seven ZJP vans were recoded to ZLP_. Vans 1 to 7 became ZLP 74, 80, 79, 77, 78, 75 and 76 respectively.
These vans were replaced in Joint Stock service by the JCP_ Joint stock freight vans.
