BMX vans were recoded and upgraded from the BMF_ vans of 1961.
They were used extensively throughout Victoria and were always seen in interstate traffic.
The BMX numbers were: 1 - 70, 72, 73, 75 - 78, 98, 100 and 102.
Some BMX vans were downgraded to BMF_ during 1978/79 with "aligned" bogies.
The remaining vans were given the new code letters of VBAX in the 1979 recoding.
