For the movement of 'lifting jacks' between bogie exchange centres and workshops, _HR_ 8 (3rd) was placed into service June 1979. By October the vehicle had been renumbered HR 31 ( 2nd ).
This vehicle was out of service by 1981 and replaced by HR 31 ( 3rd ) ex _RY_ 1540. This vehicle was placed out of service by January 1985.
By June 1985, the records show that 'HR 31' was reclassed to HZJ 270. Observation of HZJ 270 shows that it was not RY 1540.
Either a HR 31 (4th) was placed into service ex unknown RY, or there was an RY conversion direct to HZJ.
In October 1985, HZJ 270 was photographed in use as a LHB (Link Hoffman Busch) bogie transport. These bogies are the disc brake type in use on Comeng _M__ cars.
