This car was built as _AA_ 3 in 1877. It is noted as "..Mr Mirls's Prize Car..". The was built by the Phoenix Foundry, Ballarat. As the car is a copy of the American car of 1874, the car is referred to as 'Ballarat American'.
The 1904 Diagrams Books aludes to a conversion in 1894. One of the diagrams for this car is headed as "AA - Dining Car". Records only show a conversion to Albert, in June 1896, correspondence 96/5460a.
In about 1902, the car reverted back to a standard passenger car and became the second AA 129. In 1903 the car became a First and Second Class car ABAB 83.
In 1908 the car entered service after modification as a car-van, ABDABD 5. In the 1910 recoding the car became ABC_ 5.
The car was scrapped April 1941.
