CSX - Coil Steel Wagon


In 1967 BHP began rolling sheet from slabs at Hastings. SLX_ wagons ( ex ELX_ ) were used until CSX wagons could be built. Eventually, ninety CSX wagons were built in two lots.

The first group were converted from steam engine tender underframes. These wagons were later lengthened to increase loading. The second group were were built new to the new length.

The wagons were later modified with removable tarpaulin hoop supports.

The 1979 code for these wagons was VFSX
