The VFSX wagons were recoded from CSX_ in the 1979 recoding.
By 1979, all vehicles were fitted with tarp supports. The only major difference was handbrakes. Early vehicles were fitted with ratchet handbrakes and later types fitted with 'Miner' handbrakes.
The wagons numbers were 1 to 90.
VFSX 81 and 86 were damaged in a derailment during 1982 and written off.
In the late 1980's, the class was recoded to VCSX.
During 1987/1988 the VFSX wagons were reclassed to VCSX with the same numbers. The recoding was to allow for a steel wagon group in the coding system.
VCSX numbers were 1 - 80, 82 - 85, 87 - 90. Vehicles not coded had been scrapped as a result of accidents.
In the mid 1990's, the VCSX group were reclassed to RCSX for NRC use.
