A group of BMX_ vans were fitted with ride control bogies and coded BMF_ from 1978. For the 1979 recoding, the class became VBAY.
This class was gradually recoded to baggage/parcels vans; VBPY to 1983, _D__ vans 1983 onwards.
The VBAY number group was:
3, 7 - 9, 11, 14, 15, 18, 19, 22 25, 26, 28 - 30, 34, 35, 38, 40, 42 - 45, 48, 49, 52, 53, 57, 58, 60 61, 63, 66, 67, 69, 72, 73, 75, 76 79, 102
Vans not included in the D van conversions were recoded to VBAF about 1988.
VBAF
Only two vans were left for recoding to VBAF. These were VBAF 15 and 63. Both vans were transferred to departmental use and coded to VZAF with same numbers in 1990.
