VAC - Sitting Car/Sleeper, Canberra service

For passengers travelling to Canberra, an overnight car was provided on the 'Spirit of Progress' train. This train ran between Melbourne and Sydney daily.

There were two cars for the service. They were coded VAC and were numbered 1, 2. They were converted from _BS_ cars and entered service April 1962.

During May 1977 they were sighted at Newport Workshops out of service. They were under conversion to intrastate sleeping cars. The cars, now numbered as Sleeper 15 ( VAC 1 ) and Sleeper 16 ( VAC 2 ) entered service during Feb 1978.

In 1984/1985 the class was recoded to _SS_.
