For delivery of GJX wagons ex Tulloch, NSW, HR 161 was converted to HRX 161. It appears to have been used to return the standard gauge bogies back to NSW after each vehicle was bogie exchanged to broad gauge.
HR 161 was an ex _BA_ underframe ( ex _TT_ ). It was fitted with roller bearing bogies, grade control equipment and made suitable for bogie exchange.
It ran in service between January 1966 and July 1967. In July 1967 it was converted back to HR 161 with plain bearing bogies and grade control equipment removed.
It returned to broad gauge and was used to transfer bogies between South Dynon Loco and various workshops involved in bogie maintenance.
It was photographed as HR 161 in 1976, operating on the standard gauge.
