1956 Freight Stock Recoding

This recoding was applied to segregate freight vehicles that had passenger speed capability and to create a special group of service vehicles. Until this time vehicles assigned to railway only service were not specially coded.

Vehicles affected were

• _TT_ vans in mailvan traffic. These became _TP_
• _UB_ vans in passenger service with welded bogies. These became _UP_
• _Z__ vans in passenger service with dual auto/screw couplings were recoded to _ZP_

Vehicles in breakdown traffic and departmental service were

• _TT_ vans recoded to _HH_
• _OO_ vans recoded to _HH_
