During 2003, the 25 VLNX newsprint louvre vans and at least 28 VLEX louvre vans were repainted into Freight Australia colours and recoded as VLRX rice traffic louvre vans, Area of traffic was from the Deniliquin rice mill to the docks of Melbourne. Following the closure of the rice mill in 2005, these vans have been stored at various locations.
