By February 1998, four VQDW container flats had been modified to carry refrigerated containers by providing 415v electrical cabling, sockets and switchgear. The power was supplied from a PP class "Power Pack" container. These wagons retained their former VQDW numbers - 4, 5, 12 and 29. Of note, Nos 4 and 5 are permanently coupled using solid drawgear.
