The South Australian Railways were placing into service 'Brill' railcars in the late 1920's. For comparison tests, the Victorian Railways purchased one 'Brill' and trailer car.
The car became RM 44 on 4th June 1928. It had been built by the South Australian Brill Company during March 1928.
The trailer car was 200 _MT_.
In 1944 the railcar was involved in a level crossing accident.
It was placed 'Off Register' in 1947 and recorded at scrapped Feb 1951.
However it was photographed at the Spotswood Reclamation Depot as late as 1954.
