Joint Stock Sleeping Cars - 'Macedon'

The car was built by Pullman, USA. It entered service 20/5/1928.

When introduced, the two cars Macedon and Mt Lofty were the heaviest passenger cars in service on the VR and SAR, weighing some 80 tons.

It appears the car was issued to service with autocoupler draft gear and transition hooks. The records mention "transition hook to friction gear" about 1936. During June 1936 the car was fitted with autocouplers.

On the 13/1/1950 the car was removed from Joint Stock service and sold to the Commonwealth Railways.

At 1996, the car was still in service on the Australian National 'Tea and Sugar' train.
