There were only two wagons in this class:
QW 1 was recoded from _QB_ 13 in 1961 and about a month later was recoded to QWF_ 1.
QW 2 was built in 1960.
From the late 1950's to early 1960's there was a massive hydro-electric project under way in southern New South Wales. This vehicle was used to transport heavy equipment to Cudgewa and then trans-shipped to road.
After project completion, the wagon was used infrequently and stored at Newport Workshops when not in use.
The wagon was rated at 150 tons with a tare weight of nearly 93 tons. It ran in service fitted with either two axle bogies ( from "X" class steam engine tenders ) or three axle bogies ( from "S" class steam engine tenders ).
As there were only a limited number of three axle bogies, they were "poached" from _QH_ / VFGA wagons as required. The underframes of the QH wagons were then stored on the ground at Newport Workshops until required.
In the 1979 recoding, the class was altered to VWBA.
QW 2 was reclassed to VWBA 2 in November 1981.
In 1988, VWBA 2 was in storage at Eaglehawk, near Bendigo.
