Special Stock - 'State Car 3'

State Car No.3 was issued to service on 30/4/1901.

For traffic on a royal train the car was lettered as 'Edward'.

In 1919 the car was modified for use as a shower car and relettered to Carey.

There is confusion about this car caused by the use of the name 'Edward' and errors made in the diagrams issued.

Construction diagrams of this car list it as a 'Royal Car'. This was the reference for it during planning and construction.

The car was issued to service as State Car No.3. In service it was known as 'Edward'. This name was for traffic use only and is only referenced by pencil in the Register.

The diagram is in error with incorrect lettering applied to the diagrams in the 1904 and 1908 books. The diagram listed as 'Edward' has the lettering 'No.2' applied to the underframe. This is incorrect.

The floor plan, side panelling and car name suit the car 'State No.3', not 'State 2'.

The underframe lettering should read 'No.3' with a tare weight of '24.8.0.0'.
