Sixty of these wagons entered service between 1969 and 1973. They were converted from "outside sill" _RY_ wagons which had been built between 1927 and 1934.
The number group was 1 to 60. They were a short term solution to growing container traffic within Victoria. The class was progressively scrapped as more bogie container wagons were built in the late 1970's.
